Man's pride is like the Hittites
In the hills, he makes a perch.
To his surprise , in an instant,
the Lord will bring him to earth2 .

2. Rebellion
The Girgashites lived in land of clay3 .
They made bricks and pots every day.

Man's rebellion is like the Girgashites.
He hardens his heart like a rock.
To get him to listen to wisdom,
he must be broken just like a clay pot 4 .

3. Bitterness
The Amorites were bitter, evil ,and mean.
They came to fight with five of their kings 5 .

Man's anger is like the Amorites.
He blows up in fits of rage.
With axes, arrows, knives, and swords.
he will fight you into his grave 6 .
4. Defilement
The Canaanites had some habits that were just like a disease. 7
They spread their gods all over , and worshipped them on their knees.

Man's heart is like the Canaanites.
He perverts with things of shame.
He makes false gods all over,
and joins those who do the same 8 .

5. Theft
The Perizzites lived in a city that did not have walls9 .
They believed the possessions of others should be given to one and all .

Man's heart is like the Perizzites.
His refusal to work leads to theft.
He robs those with things he wants,
until there is nothing left 10 .

6. Deceit
The Hivites did not like war, but were a peaceful people.
When they disguised themselves for fear of death, they showed they were deceitful 11 .

Man's heart is like the Hivite.
With his lies, he hides the truth.
when he sees trouble is coming,
he puts his deceit to use 12 .

7. Greed
When Israel came to a knowledge of God's hand in their past,
they joined forces with David, and destroyed the Jebusites last 13 .

Man's heart is like the Jebusites,
because greed is his greatest stronghold.
To slay this vice in his heart,
he must wholly trust in God, not in gold 14 .
