Wisdom’s Invitation

Five-star hotels are magnificent buildings exquisitely fashioned with awe-inspiring architecture. Five-Star Hoteliers make every effort to appeal to all of our senses. The chandelier lighting, opulent space, and varying textures are pleasing sights. A panoramic, unobstructed view from the hotel windows normally draws patrons from afar. The interior decorations relax us with complementary color coordination, many different materials, and well-placed furniture and plants. As you pass through the foyer on your way to your room, you can smell the aroma of delicious food. You can hear sound of
voices and the clink of dishes and glasses in the hotel’s restaurant. The sounds invite you to experience the succulent meals. Even the hotel bathrooms, with their shiny brass, beautiful scents, and other luxurious appointments, are difficult to leave.

There are many parallels between a five star hotel and the benefits of Wisdom.

Confiding in Wisdom is like resting in a five star hotel that has been exquisitely and exclusively designed by the divine Hotelier. The first verse in Proverbs Chapter 9 says. “Wisdom has built her house. She has hewn out her seven pillars…” ” The strong, stout shelter of wisdom is a symbol for the awe inspiring beauty, security, steadfastness, and goodness of the Lord.

Wisdom invites us like banquet table that is filled with the fruits of the soil, and cuisine that satisfies the soul. The second verse in Proverbs Chapter 9 says, “Wisdom has killed her beasts; she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table… she cries upon the highest places of the city, The simple one, let him turn in here. To one lacking heart, she says to him, Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.”
(Pro 9:2-5)

Luke 14:16-24 describes the same banquet: “…A certain man made a supper and invited many…Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the maimed, and the lame and the blind…And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled…”(Luk 14:21-23)

The food/ nourishment of Wisdom’s house is a word picture for the Lord’s mercy, healing, and the replenishment of all that has been depleted in this life. It is the fellowship that was lost by Adam in the Garden of Eden. In Prov 8:1-27, Wisdom’s origin is found at the time of creation.

The shelter and food that wisdom offers is prepared uniquely for you. Unlike, a five-star hotel, guests never have to leave the comforts of wisdom’s palace. We rest in God’s provisions. We consume His word. We learn to understand His ways. We are given a panoramic, unobstructed view of our world. Satisfaction is a result.

A working definition of spiritual wisdom is to see life from God’s perspective (1Cor2:13), as opposed viewing life from our natural or earthly perspective (1Cor 2:14).

This blog is about God’s wisdom, the pursuit of it, where to find it, and how it applies to our daily lives. Join us at the banquet table beside the seven pillars of Wisdom’s House.
