The Separation of Church Mistake

We live in culture where our spiritual existence is conveniently separated from our workplace and school settings. We go to church on one day where spiritual values are taught, and then we go to our workplace for six days where we isolate our “religion” from corporate activities among others. This is common model of the “sacred and the secular” that has been existence for centuries among Protestants. Most of us don’t realize that this idea of the “sacred and the secular” originated from Roger Williams.

The article below contrasts the Roots and Fruits of the Decalogue from Matt 5-7 with the “sacred and the secular” version of Roger Williams.

This Christian Education traces all wisdom and knowledge to a Root or Foundation (Prov 1:7, Prov 9:10, Jn 15:4,5). There is a redemptive road that is meticulously explained with five phases. You can find this road in the the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5-7), in the Pentateuch (Gen-Deut, 1 Cor 10:1-13), in the book of James, in the Parable of the Sower (Matt 13), in the Great Commission (Matt 22-28), in Rom 12:1-2, etc. to name a few references. See this link for more information.

The incremental steps for modern product development are shown in the article Stepping Back to the Future. In this article, you will discover how our modern product development is related to the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible). See EIA-632 Standard for a commercial specification for engineering a software, electronic, or mechanical system. This will provide a real world example.

For more information about weights and measures, see this link for a fascinating history of the International Prototype Kilogram (IPK). At the end of the 1700s, the standard for measuring weight started as a liter of water . Compare this  weight standard to what is mentioned in Deuteronomy 25:13-16. Is this standard similarly defined in our courts and judicial laws (Lev 19:34-36, Lev 24:22, Matt 22:37)?

The foundation of Wisdom’s House is an unchanging standard, similar to what is sought with IPK. In our theme verses, the reference to the rock in Matt 7:21-27 and in Luke 6:46-49 is a word picture for Word of God as an unchanging standard (Matt 5:17-20, Mark 7:6-23, Luke 24:27, Jn 5:46).

The reference to the sand in Matt 7:26 and the reference to “no foundation” in Luke 6:49 are a word picture for a changing or eroding standard. In our modern courtroom,“stare decisis” is an interpretation of laws using legal precedent. We can see in recent judicial decisions of the courtroom how references to truth or reality (Jn 8:31-32) have shifted by using this common method of legal interpretation.

It is noteworthy from the IPK history that we reason from faith in our standard. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive.

It is also evident that our standard in the courtroom (the Bible) has been replaced with an unstable and inferior one, whereas IPK’s standard is improving by comparing a measured weight to other known entities (length[meter], and time[seconds]).

For another weight standard example, see Pinewood Article .

By using biblical typology, we find there is a common standard for success in both work and worship.
