Have you ever wondered why Algebra is considered an important subject in high school and in college? When we think of Algebra, we think of math and science because it is frequently used there. Most of us don’t relate Algebra and the Old Testament (OT). Yet, one evening while working on a pinewood derby race car for my son, I saw a connection between Algebra and the OT. For more information about weights and measures, see this link for a fascinating history of the International Prototype Kilogram (IPK). At the end of the 1700s, the standard for measuring weight started as a liter of water. Compare this weight standard to what is mentioned in Deuteronomy 25:13-16. Is this standard similarly defined in our courts and judicial laws (Lev 19:34-36, Lev 24:22, Matt 22:37) ?
We can see from the IPK history that we reason from faith in our standard. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive.
For another weight standard example, see “Separation…Mistake” article .
By Using biblical typology, we find there is a common standard for success in both work and worship.
